    Through VCenter inventory, the entire inventory of hosts, datastores, networks, and virtual machines can be retrieved. Alerts and notifications can be used to respond to monitored parameters and send notification when needed.

    In proactive management, the vCenter Host can be used to configure profiles, resource management of virtual machines, as well as dynamic resource assignments for resource pools, and more.

    vCenter Update Manager provides a central tool for distributing updates and patches. vCenter Update Manager allows to distribute automatically from a central point updates for ESXi hosts and virtual machines for selected operating systems.

    Functions of vCenter Server

    VMware vCenter Server is used to manage a vSphere infrastructure, i.e. all ESXi hosts and their virtual servers – all via a single administration console.
    vSphere Client and vSphere Web Client are the management interface, with newer features however only available in the vSphere Web Client.
    The vCenter Single Sign-on feature ensures that single sign-on access to all instances of vCenter and VMware vCloud Director is possible.
